KFC Is Testing Sweet Hot Capital City Mambo Sauce At Select Locations

D.C.’s popular Sweet Hot Capital City Mambo Sauce is currently being tested at select KFC locations in Dallas, Atlanta, and the Washington D.C. area.

Sweet Hot Capital City Mambo Sauce is known for having a unique sweet, spicy and tangy flavor profile similar to a Chinese sweet and sour sauce that was adopted by Chinese and Korean carryout restaurants back in the 1970s and 80s.

According to a press release, the condiment, which was originally made famous by Black-owned D.C. area chicken wing restaurants, is a fan favorite kitchen staple that has been around since the 50s and is “synonymous with Black D.C. food culture.”

Capital City is a recognized Black woman-owned business operated by Arsha Jones, who was both born and raised in Washington, D.C., where mambo sauce could be found at nearly every carryout restaurant. Following a move to the suburbs with her late husband Charles, she found it difficult to get her hands on the D.C. staple, so she had to come up with her own recipe to satisfy her mambo sauce cravings. Ten years later, Capital City has expanded beyond Arsha’s home kitchen and into the hands of fans nationwide.

Those who want to try Sweet Hot Capital City mambo sauce at participating KFC locations can choose from one of the following meal options:

  • KFC Chicken Sandwich Combo Meal
  • 4-piece Extra Crispy Tenders Combo Meal
  • 2-piece Extra Crispy Breast & Wing Combo Meal

You also have the option to add a side of Sweet Hot Capital City mambo sauce to any menu item for an extra charge.

D.C.’s Sweet Hot Capital City Mambo Sauce is available at select KFC restaurants in the D.C. area, Atlanta and Dallas for a limited time.
