In celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary, McDonald’s today announced the return of its fan-favorite OG Fried Apple Pie to participating U.S. locations starting June 23, 2026.

First introduced in the 1960s, the OG Fried Apple Pie is available all day and features a golden, crunchy, flaky fried crust filled with the brand’s sweet signature filling made from 100% American-grown apples.

Before it became a McDonald’s classic, the Fried Apple Pie had humble beginnings in East Tennessee. In the 1960s, Owner/Operator Litton Cochran introduced a fried apple hand pie based on a family recipe. Customers quickly embraced it, helping turn a local favorite into one of McDonald’s most recognizable desserts.

In addition, McDonald’s is marking the pie’s return with a 35-foot Fried Apple Pie roadside attraction along Route 66 near Chicago. Located at 920 N Broadway St. in Joliet, Illinois, the oversized tribute will give fans a photo stop and a McDonald’s souvenir map. The display debuts June 23 with a kickoff event from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. CT featuring live music, ice-cold Coca-Cola and complimentary Arch Cards, and will remain up through July 4 in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The Fried Apple Pie will be available for a limited time, while supplies last, at participating McDonald’s locations nationwide starting Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
