Subway is the latest fast-food chain to jump into the faux meat game. Today, the chain announced it is partnering with Beyond Meat to test a new line of meatless subs. The company said the new Beyond Meatball Marinara Sub will be available starting September in 685 locations across the USA and Canada.
According to a press release, the meatless meatball sub takes its inspiration from the chain’s classic sandwich but with a plant-based twist. The new meatless sub, which packs 24 grams of protein per 6-inch sub, offers the same flavor and looks almost identical to the chain’s traditional meatball sub.
Although the meatless meatball sub contains the same amount of protein as the original meatball version, we’re not sure if it will also have the same amount of calories and carbs.
The Beyond Meatball Marinara sandwich comes smothered in the chain’s signature marinara sauce and features the world’s first-ever Beyond Meatball created only for Subway, topped with Provolone cheese and grated Parmesan cheese on a toasted sub roll.
Subway says fans in the United States and Canada can create more than one billion plant-forward sandwich, Signature Wrap, and flatbread combinations. However, with the addition of the new Beyond Meatball, customers will now have more than two billion options.
The Beyond Meatball Sub will be available for a limited time only at select test locations in the United States and Canada starting September 2019.
