Pizza Hut teamed up with YouTube star Airrack to both promote and celebrate the return of The Big New Yorker Pizza by breaking the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Pizza on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in Los Angeles, CA.
The World’s Largest Pizza was created using the Big New Yorker pizza recipe and had a surface area of nearly 14,000 square feet (around 13,990 feet, to be more precise). To break the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Pizza ever, the star duo used approximately 13,653 lbs. of fresh dough, 4,948 lbs. of sweet marinara sauce, more than 8,800 lbs. of cheese, and 630,496 regular and cupped pepperoni.
The record-breaking pizza creation was fully assembled, topped and baked in pieces on-site at the Los Angeles Convention Center on January 18 of this year.
Following its creation, the record-breaking World’s Largest Pizza was donated to several charities in the Los Angeles area.
For those unfamiliar, last week Pizza Hut announced that the Big New Yorker pizza, a New York-style pizza from the 1990s, will be finally returning to menus nationwide on February 1, 2023, for the first time in 24 years despite overwhelming popular demand.
Inspired by the spirit of NY, The Big New Yorker consists of an XL 16″ pizza cut into six oversized slices that can be folded. It has a crispy crust and comes packed with bold flavors, including sweet marinara sauce and Parmesan oregano seasoning sprinkled on top of it.
The Big New Yorker pizza can be found at participating Pizza Hut locations nationwide for a limited-time only starting February 1, 2023. Hut Rewards members will get exclusive early access to try the Big New Yorker beginning on January 31, 2023.
It’s also worth noting that Pizza Hut currently holds the Guinness World Records title for the highest altitude pizza delivery on land as well. The pizza was delivered at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania back in 2016 at an altitude of 19,341 feet.
The Fast Food Post first reported that The Big New Yorker was returning to the menu in late December 2022.
